There’s now a website about the shy walker, whose hand-illustrated guidebooks introduced thousands to walking.
Take 30 - hear what people who’ve started walking have to say.

Any amount of walking helps, and 30 minutes of brisk walking on most days is enough to make a real difference to fitness and health. Small easy steps all help. Try getting off the bus one stop earlier, taking a detour through your local park, walking to the corner shop instead of taking the car, walking round the block every day or just walking a bit faster then usual.
There’s lots of help available. Almost every Council, Information Centre and library has brochures and books on local walks. The Take30 pages are full of information on walking your way to health, with a 10 week starter programme, and the Get Walking Keep Walking project has guided starter walks in several main cities (both on the Ramblers Association’s website which also has masses of useful links to local programmes.
If you want people to walk with regularly, check out your local Ramblers Association group - they have a wide range of walks from easy to challenging, often stopping at a pub for lunch. Some local papers list group walks in their Events section. Also check out the Getting Started page.
